Description
The National Westminster Bank is a dignified classical Victorian commercial building dating from the 19th century. It features a three-storey facade with three windows, constructed from ponderous ashlar stone. The facade has raised quoins and cill strings, with the second floor displaying dentilled detailing and brackets beneath the cills. At the top, there is an entablature with a guilloche moulded frieze and a cornice that is both modillioned and dentilled. The windows are set within moulded architraves, with the second-floor windows having ears and keystones, while the first-floor windows are adorned with enriched cornices. The rusticated ground floor creates voussoirs for round arched openings, which feature masks of kings on the keystones, all situated within round arched recesses. The entrance includes a six-panel door flanked by respond pilasters, a frieze, and a dentilled cornice head beneath a fanlight.
