Description

This is a late 18th-century farmhouse with alterations made in the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick in English bond, with roughcast to the returns and rear, and has a pantiled roof. The farmhouse has two storeys and four bays. A partly-glazed four-panel door, with a radial fanlight, is located in the bay to the left of the centre, set behind a later 20th-century glazed porch. The windows are replaced 16-pane sashes with projecting stone sills and rubbed-brick flat arches. The steeply-pitched roof has stone-coped gables and shaped kneelers. Brick chimney stacks feature top bands. The rear elevation includes an altered stair window with margined glazing, in a round arched form. A farmbuilding on the right return is not considered of special interest. Skerningham Farmhouse was the residence of Charles Colling (1720-1790), a noted cattle breeder.
