Description

The garden wall and privy date from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The garden wall is constructed of brick in an irregular English garden bond. A section of the north wall was heightened in the early 20th century using engineering brick. The north wall, running along the return of Low Middleton Hall, extends northwest for approximately 40 metres. It is 3.0 metres tall, but steps up to 5.0 metres in height at the west end, with a centrally placed boarded door. A further west wall, around 3.0 metres tall with a brick coping, runs southwest for approximately 40 metres. A privy is located near the northwest corner and features a pointed, partly-glazed door with intersecting tracery, and a pantiled roof with a lean-to extension at the rear. Inside the privy is a three-seater bench. A section of the south wall has an ogee ramp and runs southeast for 3.0 metres, ending in a pyramidal stone finial. The wall and privy are listed for their group value with Low Middleton Hall. The heightened section of the north wall and the lean-to buildings at the rear of the privy are not considered to be of particular architectural interest.
