Description
The Grey Tower is a house, possibly a lodge, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, and may include parts of an earlier building. It is constructed of coursed squared sandstone with an ashlar plinth and dressings, and has an L-shaped plan. The building has three storeys and two bays.
On the north elevation, there is an entrance tower set back to the right, featuring a partly-glazed ledged boarded door with a two-centred arched head in a double-chamfered surround, topped with a dripmould. Above the door, there are slit windows on each floor, with the first-floor window blocked. The elevation is capped with a corbelled battlemented parapet. The left two bays contain 2-light casements with flat stone lintels and flat stone sills, also under a projecting battlemented parapet. To the left, there is a one-storey, one-bay extension that has an inserted bow window.
The south elevation features label moulds over the 2-light casements and a flat-coped parapet.
