Description

The obelisk, built in 1850, serves as an observation point and is constructed from sandstone ashlar. It is a very tall and slender structure featuring three openings on its south face. The obelisk stands on a high panelled base with a cornice and has steps leading down to a small opening at the foot on the north side. The south face is inscribed with the latitude, longitude, angle of dip, and height above sea level. Additionally, there is a Latin inscription on the base that reads: W I W/ASTRONOMIAE/DICAVIT/MDCCCL.
