Description

Crimdon Farmhouse and attached farm buildings are a mid-18th century farmhouse that was altered in the early 19th century, along with an attached early 19th century cottage. The complex also includes a mid-18th century barn and early 19th century farm buildings. The farmhouse and cottage are constructed of roughcast masonry and brick, featuring renewed pantiled roofs and brick chimneys. The barn is made of limestone rubble, while the farm buildings are brick with pantiled roofs.

The farmhouse is two stories high and has four bays, with a lower two-story, four-bay cottage attached to the east. The farmhouse features a 19th century six-panel door with a three-pane overlight in the third bay, primarily replaced 12- and 16-pane sash windows, and a two-story canted bay window to the left of the doorway. The left bay was added in the 20th century. The steeply-pitched roof has coped gables and shaped kneelers, with chimneys on the right gable and ridge. The cottage has a 20th century enclosed porch in the third bay and replaced 16-pane sash windows, with a chimney on the right gable. The rear of the farmhouse has two gabled wings with renewed windows.

The U-shaped range of farm buildings at the rear of the farmhouse and cottage encloses a stockyard. The one-story ranges to the east and west are connected to a two-story, three-bay stone barn that has altered openings. The east and west ranges feature five and seven elliptical arches respectively, some of which are now blocked, with square casements inserted. The two end bays of the west range, closest to the farmhouse, were raised by one story in the late 19th century. Lean-to additions within the stockyard and detached farm buildings to the rear are not of special interest.
