Description

Close Cottage and Nether Westwick are a house, originally one dwelling, now divided into two separate homes, situated in Nether Westwick. The core of the building dates to the early 18th century, with later 19th-century alterations. The construction uses roughcast and painted sandstone rubble, with roughly-dressed quoins. The roof is pantiled, featuring a double row of sandstone flags at the eaves, and has stone and brick stacks.

The two-storey, six-bay front presents three bays for each dwelling. Close Cottage has a central blank bay on the ground floor, flanked by renewed 12-pane sash windows with projecting sills. Nether Westwick has a 20th-century door centrally placed, a round window above it, and flanking 16-pane sashes with projecting sills. The first floor features six renewed 12-pane sash windows with projecting sills across both dwellings.

On the left return of Close Cottage, a semicircular oven projection is visible to the right of a boarded door which sits under a heavy oak lintel. The steeply-pitched roof has overhanging eaves, flat-coped gables, a corniced stone left-end stack, and ridge and right-end brick stacks.

Outbuildings attached to the right return of Nether Westwick are not considered of particular architectural interest.
