Description
The garden walls south of the forecourt of Witton Castle are likely from the late 17th century. They are constructed from coursed sandstone rubble with a brick inner layer and feature flat stone coping and brick dressings. The walls form a square enclosure, with a short north wall attached to the west corner of the forecourt wall, which serves as the northern boundary of the garden. Blocked Tudor-arched doors at the south ends of both the west and east walls have surrounds made of two courses of headers and lugged brick jambs. Additionally, low blocked flue exits on the south wall indicate that it may have been a heated wall, although the outer face is obscured by 20th-century greenhouses.
