Description

Snape Gate Farmhouse (west) and the attached outbuildings are a farmhouse, byre, and loft dating from the early 18th century, with later additions from the late 18th century. The buildings are constructed of sandstone rubble, featuring some quoins and ashlar dressings, and have a stone-flagged roof. The farmhouse is two storeys high with five bays, and there is a one-storey, three-bay addition on the right.

To the left, the two-bay byre and loft has an off-centre boarded door set in irregular-block jambs with a flat stone lintel. The loft door to the right also has similar jambs and a flat stone sill, with slit vents to the left. The three-bay house includes a one-bay central front extension under a catslide roof, which has a small square window at the front. The outer bays feature renewed glazing in small nearly-square windows with plain stone surrounds, although the ground floor right window has been altered. The house is topped with tall square end chimneys.

The right extension has a central boarded Dutch door flanked by partly-glazed windows. The rear elevation displays a catslide roof over a one-bay outshut on the third bay of the house, along with a 20th-century outshut on the second bay. The loft features a boarded door in irregular jambs and two vent slits.
