Description
The turnip chute, located approximately 10 metres north of the main block of Ushaw Home Farm, was built around 1851 by Joseph Hansom. It features a wall and steps made of sandstone ashlar, along with a wrought iron railing. The chute has an elliptical dwarf wall measuring about one by one and a half metres, which includes chamfered coping. There are steps leading up to the north side of the chute, adorned with trefoil-headed iron railings and spiked low dog bars. This structure is part of the planned farm layout, designed for sending turnips down to the main farm building.
