ESH USHAW Turnip chute, c.10 metres north of Ushaw Home Farm main block

GV II

Turnip chute. Circa 1851 by Joseph Hansom. Sandstone ashlar wall and steps; wrought iron railing. Elliptical dwarf wall, c. one by 1½ metres, with chamfered coping; steps up to north side. Trefoil-headed iron railings and spiked low dog bars. Part of the planned farm layout; turnips were sent down the chute to the main farm building.
