Description

Two headstones, dating from the early 18th century, are located approximately 15 metres south-west of the old Church of St. Mary in Brignall. Both are made of cut stone. The southern headstone features a shaped top with relief-carved foliage above a sunk ogee-headed panel that bears the inscription for Sarah, wife of Thomas Sutton, who died in 1721. The northern headstone has a swept segmental top and a moulded surround that frames an undated inscription which reads: "Julian & Jane/Sutton Bless/ye The Lord/Praise Him &/Magnifie Him/forever."
