Description

These stone walls and piers were built in 1854 in front of Wear Terrace. The walls are constructed of stone rubble with an ashlar (dressed) coping along the top. The piers are also ashlar and feature low pyramidal coping. The walls enclose the gardens in front of a terrace of three houses, starting low at the left (in front of number 25) and increasing in height as the ground slopes downward. They connect to a lower wall in front of numbers 27 and 29 and to a higher wall at the south end of the garden of number 29. Square, tall ashlar piers act as entrances to each house, divide the walls between the gardens, and connect with the high wall at the south end of the garden of number 29. The original railings have been removed and the garden gates have been replaced.
