Description
The Pickeran tomb, located approximately 8 metres south of the east end of the Church of St. Michael, is a headstone dating from around 1737. It commemorates John Pickeran, likely a reference to the modern surname Pickering, and Jane, who died in 1744. The tomb features a sandstone slab that stands about 0.7 metres high, with a tooled carved top. The design includes the letters 'R' and 'S' flanking two marigolds, above a band decorated with a pattern of crossed bones between circles of inverted hearts. The inscription concludes with scrolls that flank the phrase 'AGED 68'.
