Description

Pontburn Bridge is an early 19th-century bridge constructed from coursed squared sandstone, featuring coursed rubble approach walls with ashlar dressings. The bridge has a segmental arch that is recessed under a drip band. The road bed slopes up from the center to the east, continuing around square pilasters that support round end piers of the parapet. The parapet is topped with chamfered ashlar coping, which is also present on the short approach walls on the north side of the road. Part of the bridge is located in the parish of Consett.
