Description
The building is a former coach-house and stables located on the east side of the courtyard at Shincliffe Hall, dating from the late 18th to early 19th century, with 20th-century alterations. It is constructed from hand-made brick in an irregular English garden wall bond, featuring painted stone dressings and a Welsh slate roof. The structure is two storeys high and has a layout of three bays, one wide central bay that projects forward, and three additional bays. The central bay is topped with a pediment and contains a replaced boarded door with a margined overlight. The flanking bays have replaced sashes: 12-pane windows on the ground floor and 6-pane windows above, both with projecting stone sills and segmental brick heads. The steeply-pitched roof has a stone-coped gable with a shaped kneeler on the left side. There are added outshuts of various builds at the rear. The building is included for its group value, while a late 20th-century house on the right return is not of interest.
