Description

Shincliffe Bridge is a bridge built around 1826 by Ignatius Bonomi. It is constructed of rock-faced sandstone and ashlar, featuring two large elliptical arches and central triangular cutwaters that rise to canted refuges. The bridge has a prominent roll-moulding set back on the arches. The parapets are ashlar-faced on the road side, with chamfered coping, and they end in low rectangular piers that also have chamfered coping. On the west side, a 20th-century footpath has been added, and the north pier of the parapet has been removed.
