Description
The bastion behind No. 50 and the attached wall is a late medieval structure, likely part of the castle wall. It is constructed from coursed squared sandstone with ashlar dressings. The bastion stands two storeys high with a round north wall and features a high four-course chamfered plinth. There are stone side steps located behind No. 2 Owengate that lead to a first-floor door with a chamfered Tudor arch. The parapet above has sloped coping.
Inside, the bastion includes round-headed openings on three north faces and a chamfered Tudor arched door at the rear, which is set under a corbelled brick arch within the thickness of the wall.
