Description
The Hopper tomb, located about one metre east of the Church of St. Michael, is a headstone likely dating from 1714. It commemorates Robert Hopper, who died in 1670, his wife Joan, who died in 1673, and Isabel, the daughter of J. Reed of Shotton and wife of Thomas Hopper, who died in 1714. The tomb also honors Thomas Hopper. It features a sandstone ashlar slab with a shallow roll-moulded edge and a roughly-chamfered back. The inscription is long and well-cut in Latin, although the top right corner was damaged at the time of the survey.
