Description
Fairoak is a house that has been rendered and features a stone-tiled roof with two yellow brick chimney stacks, one located at the right end and another on the ridge, one bay in from the left end. In 1979, there was a third chimney stack on the left end. The building is a long, single-storey structure with an attic, which includes small eaves-breaking gabled dormers: one in the first bay, one in the centre, and one further right, each with pairs of casement windows.
The ground floor has a porch to the right of centre, flanked by two pairs of casement windows to the left and one to the right. There is a single casement window in the first bay to the left, and a lean-to outbuilding with a slate roof in the last bay to the right. The gabled 19th-century porch features a roof made of shaped slates, a bargeboarded gable, and trellis sides, and it covers a six-panel door with the top four panels being fielded.
At the rear, there is a former coach-house range dating from around 1900, which has a slate roof and a yellow brick chimney stack on the ridge. The rendered left end has paired gables, with a tiny window on the ground floor of the original house and a pair of casement windows on the ground floor of the rear range.
The property was not inspected, but in 1979, there were three stop-chamfered beams with run-out stops on the ground floor. There is a fireplace to the left of the middle room, which has a concealed adjoining winding staircase and a fireplace with a bread oven. The house features panelled shutters, and the ceiling beam in the left end dairy has been altered. There is also a fireplace in the lower southwest end room. It is said that the roof has been raised, with traces of an earlier roof possibly remaining above the dairy.
