Description
The churchyard gates and piers to the Church of St Michael date from the 19th century. They consist of two sandstone piers and twin cast-iron gates. The piers feature light tooling, a chamfered plinth, chamfered and stopped angles, and Bath stone caps that do not project, topped with large cross-gabled sections that include quatrefoils in the gables. The twin cast-iron gates are elaborately designed, with several horizontal rails: double at the top, treble at the lock-rail, a single rail across the middle of the lower part, and double at the bottom. The upper section of the gates has alternating small and large spearhead finials, while the lower part showcases an openwork pattern that is mirrored above and below the single rail.
