Description
Clearwater House is a double-depth plan house, likely dating from the late 18th century. It appears to be rendered over a rubble stone base, with a Welsh slate roof. The main part of the house is two storeys high with a garret, while a rear service wing is two storeys in height. The front elevation features three bays. A central six-panel door is set within a Regency-style timber porch with a tented lead roof and an architrave incorporating a guilloche moulding. To the left of the door is a tripartite sash window with a 6 over 6 pane flanked by 2 over 2 panes, while a 6 over 6 pane sash without horns sits to the right. The first floor features a tripartite window to the left and two further 6 over 6 sash windows to the centre and right, these latter windows having horns. Windows are also present in both gables to the rear, and two 2+2 casement windows are in the attic of the left-hand gable. A late 20th-century conservatory projects from the ground floor. The two-storey rear wing has two windows, one a 6 over 6 sash, with the remaining windows being later additions.
Inside, the entrance opens onto a straight staircase with stick balusters extending to the attic. The main reception rooms are located on either side of the staircase, and retain some Georgian features. The hall leads through to the service wing, which includes a stone-paved floor and a modernised kitchen. The upper floors were not inspected during the most recent survey.
