Description
The Bank Barn at Howick Farm is a 19th-century structure built from roughly coursed limestone rubble and topped with a corrugated metal sheeting roof. It features a projecting gabled porch on the yard side, which has vertical sheeting in the gable. There are strip vents on either side of the barn, along with small square vents for the hayloft. Additionally, small vents are positioned at two levels, and an owl hole is present in the gable ends.
The exterior of the barn includes a central elliptical arch leading to the threshing floor, with a low strip vent on the left and a high vent for the tallet on the right, as well as small vents. Inside, the barn has an early 19th-century five-bay roof made up of principal rafters with ties, some queen struts, three tiers of light butt purlins, and a ridge piece. Notably, the charred lintels from a fire in 1814 are still visible.
