Description
This building is a farmhouse constructed from roughly coursed and squared sandstone, topped with a steep slate roof that features overhanging eaves. It has an end-wall stack above a hipped gable on the northwest side, and an axial stack indicating the original right-end wall. The front elevation, facing southwest, is a two-storey structure with a four-window range, which reflects an extension made in the mid to late 19th century of an earlier building, although the façade details are all contemporary. To the right, there is a stone-clad, green-oak cruck-framed wing added in 2001. The windows are all four-pane sashes with dressed architraves. A brick gabled porch leads to the doorway, which is centrally located in the original three-bay range. The rear of the house features similar details and includes a broad rear wing with an added stone lean-to. The farmhouse is situated on a sloping site and has a cellar beneath the northwest gable, accessed from the farmyard through an arched doorway.
Internally, the layout may reflect 19th-century remodelling as much as any earlier design, consisting of an original three-unit plan with a central staircase and the inline 19th-century extension. The early origins of the building are suggested primarily by the roof structure, which includes three bays, with the central bay designated for the staircase, marked by collar trusses. The 19th-century extension features softwood trusses.
