Description
Oaklands is a two-storey house built of rubblestone, with the upper floor on the north side featuring horizontal boarding and tarred finish, topped by a pantiled roof. The design follows a double depth central entry plan, with the roof consisting of two parallel ranges and a hipped return connecting them at the west end. The architectural style is influenced by Home Counties Rustic and Garden Suburb aesthetics, reminiscent of Barry Parker's own house.
The north elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a central plain doorway with a flat hood. This doorway is flanked by small three-light windows, with a canted bay on the left and a plain window on the right. On the first floor, there are plain two-light casements at either end, and a central feature window with five lights on either side of a king mullion. All windows are small paned with painted casements, characteristic of the Garden Suburb style.
The west front features three plain two-light casements as seen on the north elevation. The east and south elevations have not been observed, but it is reported that the south elevation includes an off-centre, gabled full height bay. The interior has not been seen during the resurvey.
