Description
The Granary and Cider House at Lower Dyffryn is a 19th-century building constructed from rubble stone with a corrugated iron roof. This two-storey structure features a granary and a cider mill. The granary steps intersect with the segmental arched voussoirs of the ground floor window of the cider house. To the right of the stairs, there is a wide cartshed opening with boarded double doors, and to the left, a boarded door leads to the cowhouse. The upper storey includes a central boarded door and square window openings, each fitted with boarded shutters.
Attached to the north side of the cider mill is a single-storey range that includes, from left to right, a three-light transom window, a segmental arched cartshed, and a small stable positioned at right angles. Inside, there is a large millstone with a diameter of 1.1 meters and a square-sectioned, chamfered drive shaft. A massive circular stone trough, measuring 3 meters in diameter, is made from stone blocks secured with iron cramps and features a curved inner chase and a rim capped in elm. The granary roof is supported by 19th-century framed trusses with raking queen struts.
