Description

The Court House is a building constructed from rendered rubble with painted quoins and features a modern green concrete pantile gabled roof, which was relatively new when it was inspected for listing in December 1975. It stands two storeys tall, with the front elevation consisting of roughly two bays and a central doorway. The building includes 19th-century timber mullioned casements: one on the right side of the ground floor and two 4-light windows on the first floor, with the left window appearing to be in its original opening. On the ground floor to the left, there is a modern timber casement. The original doorway has a chamfered pointed arch and an old ledged door, accompanied by a modern porch. The gabled roof has end ridge stacks, with the left stack projecting like a breast and the right stack having been rebuilt. There is an additional wing to the left, featuring a similar window on each floor, a gable chimney, and a garret window, along with a small lean-to on the gable. The rear kitchen wing has a catslide roof and a gable chimney, with modern features present in the yard. There is also a small attached bakehouse.

The interior was fully inspected in December 1975 before the house was listed, and the ground floor was partially inspected during a resurvey. The ceiling beams on the ground floor are boxed in, as are the fireplaces, limiting what can be learned from them. The entrance door leads to a stairhall with an early to mid-19th-century staircase that was damaged by fire in 1975. The west ground floor room contains cupboards with panelled doors, although these were not seen during the resurvey. The roof timbers, described as principal rafter type, were found to be charred during the late December 1975 inspection.
