Description
Caerwent House is a three-storey rectangular building that runs parallel to the road, featuring a continuous outshut at the rear. The exterior is rendered, likely over rubble stone, and it has a pitched slate roof with a dog-leg profile at the back due to later extensions. The front facade has four windows: the second floor has horizontal sliding sashes, while the first floor and the center of the ground floor feature vertical sashes with flush frames and 6 over 6 pane glazing bars. The right-hand window on the ground floor is a metal-framed casement.
The original canopied porch was replaced in 1985 with a lean-to porch made of corrugated sheeting, which includes a 6-panel door with 4 glazed panels. There are also metal-framed secondary doors on the front and left-hand sides, along with a French door to the left of the porch. The roof slope is plain and has three rebuilt red brick ridge stacks, positioned one at each gable and one in the center.
The rear elevation is only partially visible but features a cat slide roof. The outshut has two metal-framed casements on the east wall, and the gable end of the main range includes a plank taking in door.
The interior was not available for inspection during the resurvey in June 1999, but it is reported to contain surviving features such as chamfered and stopped floor beams, a reused diamond mullion window, and Regency detailing on fireplaces, doors, and architraves.
