Description
Castle Terrace is a row of Georgian houses situated on Bridge Street, rising with the slope of the road between the Wye Bridge and the town centre. The terrace comprises numbers 33a to 47, and each house presents a single frontage over three storeys and a cellar. Each house features one window per floor. The exterior walls are roughcast and painted, with slate roofs and narrow brick stacks dividing the properties. Upper-floor windows are predominantly 3/6-pane sashes set within the reveals. First-floor windows are generally 6/6-pane sashes. Ground-floor windows are typically segmental bows with small panes, featuring fixed sections and single-pane opening lights. The houses have deep plinths. Panelled doors are set within wooden door cases on the left-hand side; some have rectangular overlights. Shallow wooden hoods, supported by brackets and often enriched with fretwork, cover the doorways. Despite some alterations to detail and variations in dimensions, the terrace retains a generally symmetrical appearance. One house incorporates a rectangular overlight.
