Description

The Castle View Hotel is a two-storey building with an attached house range on the right, constructed with scored stucco that features voussoirs and a slate roof. It has a central pedimental gable above, an eaves cornice with bargeboards, and a single 9-pane window set into the design. The building has tall and slender end stacks. The front facade has a five-window range on the first floor, showcasing 6/6-pane sashes in exposed frames. The ground floor features three low-set windows: two sashes set in reveals and a pair of 8-pane sashes at the left end, which are positioned under a cambered head. There are signs of window blocking, and a doorway located centre right has a moulded door surround leading to a 20th-century door, which is sheltered by a hood.

Inside, the front right area retains a painted fireplace adorned with Adam-style motifs, along with panelled reveals to the windows and shutters. Another small fireplace is framed by what appears to be 16th-century woodwork. The rear room includes a planked door that leads to a former cellar, as well as built-in cupboards next to a former range fireplace. The staircase features turned balusters. Additionally, there are two unusual wall paintings in the bedrooms; one depicts a stylised house, while the other illustrates a formal garden and parkland, complete with figures and a large house in the background, rendered in perspective.
