Description
The barn at Loysey is a 19th-century structure made of roughly coursed and squared sandstone rubble, topped with a pantile roof that features stone slates on the lower courses. It is built across a slope, with a plinth at the east end and the west end set into the bank. The north elevation facing the farmyard has central cart doors, a blank wall to the left, and a pantiled outshut to the right, which is likely a later addition. The west gable includes two slit vents below and a taking-in door leading to the hayloft above. The south elevation features slit vents at the lower level and framed triangular and square vents above. The cart doors are flanked by buttresses, with an additional buttress on the right side. There are two rooflights and a vent on the south roof slope, as well as a rooflight on the north roof slope and the roof of the outshut. The openings have modern glazing.
The barn has been converted to residential use and features a five-bay queen strut roof, which has been altered with raised ties, principals, two tiers of purlins, and secondary rafters.
