Description
The granary at Lower Ton is a 19th-century lofted cart-shed constructed from rubble stone and topped with a slate roof. It has a roughly square plan, with a lower range added to the rear. The front gable features two broad depressed-arched cart entries, which are separated by a square central pier and framed with sandstone voussoirs. Above these entries is a depressed-arched loft door, also with stone voussoirs. On the west side, there are external stone steps leading up to the loft door located under the eaves. The centre of this side has a cambered-headed window with stone voussoirs. The steps are equipped with a metal rail and have a stone parapet wall at the top, with a doorway beneath it, again framed with stone voussoirs. The east side has a rubble stone lean-to, while the lower addition on the end wall features an asbestos sheet roof. This addition includes full-height double doors and a small window on each floor to the right. The cart entries at the rear have brick arches, and the interior contains one heavy spine beam.
