Description
The Coach House is a long, narrow rectangular range built in the 18th century. Originally stables and ancillary buildings, it was later converted to domestic use. It is constructed of painted rubblestone with a stone slate roof. The building has a single depth plan and is two storeys high, spanning ten or eleven bays.
The front elevation features a granary with an external staircase at the left-hand end, above which is a window and door. To the right of this are two windows with half dormers above, followed by a segmental arch containing a window above. A long hayloft is situated towards the right-hand side, featuring external doors and a staircase to the front, and another at the gable end. Below and above the hayloft are doors and windows, all with 20th-century joinery in varying designs. The roof has a moderate pitch with two small stacks on the ridge.
The rear elevation is simpler, mainly featuring 20th-century casement windows with small panes. An additional chimney is present on the rear wall.
The interior was not inspected during a recent survey. The conversion to domestic use would have resulted in the subdivision of spaces and the likely loss of traditional stable features.
