Description
The stable block at Court St Lawrence is a Grade II listed building constructed from squared coursed purple rubble stone, topped with slate roofs and featuring flat overhanging eaves. This lofted structure has three bays and is flanked by single-storey, single-bay pavilion wings that were originally coach-houses. The main range has gable ends with open lunettes in each gable. The west front features three tall arched recesses, each containing ground floor openings that are all arch-headed, with a window on each side of the door, and all equipped with plain two-light fanlights. There is an added lean-to at the rear. The coach-house wings have low-pitched hipped roofs and were originally open-fronted or had doors, but these have now been infilled with 20th-century boarding and openings. The side walls, also made of squared rubble, display a triple blind arcade, and the arch heads are adorned with voussoirs made of cut purple sandstone. The interior was not accessible during the inspection in December 1999, but it is said to contain sleeping quarters for grooms in the loft.
