Description
The Cross in St Govan's churchyard is a stone preaching cross dating from the high medieval period. It features a base made up of five steps, with an early 20th-century weathered inscription carved into the third step that notes its restoration in 1903. The square medieval cross-base is broached to an octagonal shape, with the broaches having a curved keel profile. The early 20th-century cross, made from Forest of Dean stone, has a tapering octagonal shaft with a broached foot, a carved capital, and relief sculptures on each side framed in cinquefoil cusps. The west face depicts the Crucifixion, while the east face shows St Govan, who is crowned and holding a model of a church. The cross is topped with an ogee crocketted design.
