Description
The Hall Monument is a Grade II listed structure built from Forest of Dean sandstone and oak, featuring wrought iron railings. It is situated within a large enclosure of spear-head railings against the west wall of the churchyard. The railings stand approximately 1.6 meters tall and are adorned with vases on the main stanchions, with four panels on each side. There are double gates on both the north and south sides of the enclosure.
Inside, the enclosure contains a very large sarcophagus designed as a table tomb in a gothic style, which stands on a stone plinth. The tomb measures three bays by one bay and is about 2 meters in height. The east end features a large, well-carved achievement of the Llanover arms, inscribed with 'LANOVER ABERCARN'. The long sides of the tomb display quatrefoil panels that include a central coat-of-arms and flanking inscriptions. The west end is marked by an oak door, intricately carved with a quatrefoil that contains a coat-of-arms. All three sides of the tomb have partly failed inscriptions in both Welsh and English, and it is topped with a moulded cornice and a ridge running down the center.
