Description

Manchester House, which includes Mayberry Pharmacy and the Good Job Club, is an elaborate late Victorian shop building. It is constructed from coursed squared rubble stone with yellow Ebbw Vale brick dressings and has Welsh slate roofs. The large rectangular block stands three stories high, featuring three bays facing Crane Street and four bays facing Market Street, with the entrance located on the canted corner.

The ground floor is supported by stone and brick piers, interspersed with cast iron columns that have foliate caps. It includes four double display windows and two single display windows, along with a recessed entrance at the corner framed by two cast iron columns. There is a continuous fascia above. The entrance door has been replaced.

On the first floor, there is a canted oriel window with two over two sash windows on the left, flanked by one over one sash windows. The corner is recessed, featuring a door that leads to a small balcony supported by columns. To the left, there is a double display window, and to the right, paired display windows separated by a brick and stone pier, all topped with a fascia. A second oriel window is located to the right, followed by another double window.

The second floor has three two over two sash windows to the left, one in an arched recess at the canted corner, and four more to the right, all framed by yellow bricks. The eaves are supported on paired brackets, and the gable features bargeboards and a spike finial at the canted corner, with truncated ridge stacks. The interior was not inspected during the resurvey in October 1996.
