Description
The memorial to John Thomas (Ieuan Ddu) is located in the churchyard of the Church of St Mary. It is a tapering freestone structure set on a stepped base, topped with a low-relief cross within a shaped head. The front of the memorial features an inscription that honors his life, stating that he was "the first person in Wales to lay the foundation of the prevailing taste for music, which obtained its triumph in the Crystal Palace contest in 1872." Below this is a Welsh inscription by Watkyn Wyn. The sides of the memorial are adorned with panels that display vine trails in low relief.
