Description
64 Newport Road is a former bank building constructed in the 19th century, designed in the French Renaissance style. It features two-and-a-half storeys and is built of pennant stone with extensive bathstone facings. The roof is a slate Mansard style, topped with elaborate bathstone chimneys and a bathstone cornice.
The front block has a splayed corner entrance and three windows facing Newport Road, along with one window to the left on Piercefield Place. The corner of the building includes an attic aedicule with a segmental pediment and a round window. On the first floor, there is a single window, and the entrance is highlighted by an open pediment on brackets, positioned high above pilasters that flank a round-headed doorway with a keystone.
The attic features gabled dormers and a parapet, while the first-floor windows have bathstone aprons adorned with volutes. The ground floor is faced with channelled bathstone and includes tripartite sashes with Doric pillar mullions. On Piercefield Place, there are two single-window blocks in the same style, each set back from the main facade. A narrower block at the rear has a hooded doorway.
