Description
St. Andrew is the left-hand house of a pair, with the other being St. Cross. It was built using multi-coloured stone, shaped in a square or rectangular form, and laid in irregular courses, featuring Bath stone ashlar dressings and a Welsh slate roof. The building is designed in a restrained Gothic style and has a double depth central entry plan with a stair at the rear.
The house is two storeys high and has three bays, along with a single storey flanking wing that has a stepped parapet that decreases in height towards the left. The right-hand bay is narrower and contains a 2-light window on both the first and ground floors, with the ground floor window being transomed. The intermediate bays are gabled, featuring a chimney finial that rises through the centre of the gable; the first floor has a 3-light mullioned window, while the ground floor has a pointed relieving arch over a 2-light window and a pointed doorway with a dripstone, which is flanked on the left by a mullioned and transomed window.
The left end bay has a 3-light mullioned window on the first floor, and on the ground floor, there is a single light transomed window and a 2-light transomed window. The single storey wing to the left includes a 3-light mullioned window and a stepped parapet. Each return at the base of the stack features a 2-light flat-headed mullioned window with a pointed arch above. The roof is steeply pitched with gable copings and end stacks.
On the rear elevation, there is a central stair window with 2 lights and two transoms, with a back door below. This is flanked by a canted bay on the right and a 3-light window on the left, with 2-light windows in half dormers above. There is also a 3-light window in the single storey wing to the right. The interior was not inspected during the resurvey.
