Description
The former East Moors Forward Movement Mission Hall, now known as Eastmoors Youth Centre, is a two-storey building located with its entrance block facing Sanquhar Street. The structure is built of coursed roughly dressed stone, featuring painted stone window and door surrounds on the entrance block, while the hall is detailed with yellow brick. The hall has a hipped slate roof, and the entrance block has a plain parapet and a flat roof. The glazing has been replaced.
The entrance block has an asymmetric layout, with the main three-bay section featuring four-light transom windows in the centre and left bays, and a two-light transom in the right bay. There is a wide elliptical arched doorway with framed overlights and four doors, and the stone arch is inscribed with ‘WELCOME EASTMOORS CROESO’. The centre bay has an offset two-light window and a doorway to the right. To the left, there is a stepped-down two-bay section with a doorway on the left and a two-light window on the right. The ground floor openings have stone relieving arches and cusped heads, with the doors featuring stepped springers. There is a later lean-to garage to the right. The six-bay hall at the rear is aligned at right angles and has a blind rear wall. A later lower two-storey extension includes a blocked doorway and red brick repairs, along with a brick lean-to under a corrugated steel roof.
Inside, the entrance hall features an angled stair to the left and a dog-leg stair to the right, both with heavy turned newels, balusters, and handrails. The lower hall area at the rear has been modernised, while the upper floor contains storage and office space. The upper floor of the hall retains its roof structure and supporting cast iron pillars with Corinthian capitals, along with a raked gallery with seating and a stage installed at the rear. The ceiling has decorated ventilation fittings. There is a contemporary extension to the rear, which shows evidence of former doorways and fireplaces.
