Description
The barn at Goldsland Farm is a large structure oriented north to south, featuring double doors facing east to west at the center of a spacious farmyard surrounded by modern low farm buildings. It is constructed of narrow stone rubble with dressed stone voussoirs and quoins, topped with a Welsh slate roof. The barn has a five-bay plan and originally included deep opposing gabled porches, although the western porch has been altered. Integral lean-tos are present on each side of the eastern porch, with side entrances incorporated within the porch.
The eastern elevation remains largely unchanged, showcasing a tall gable over a wide cambered arched wagon entrance, which aligns roughly with the top of the lean-tos. Above this entrance are upper-tier ventilation slits for the main range, while the ground floor openings to the lean-tos have been altered on the left side. The rear porch has been reduced in size, now featuring a corrugated roof and a lean-to on the right.
Inside, there is a flagstone threshing floor situated between the porches. The interior displays a range of rectangular ventilation slits on two levels, with additional slits visible in the apex. The doorways within the porch leading to the lean-tos also feature cambered-arched heads. The barn has bolted A-frame trusses, with the southern side having an upper floor, while the northern side remains open to the roof.
