Description
The Old Rectory is a large former rectory built in the Regency style. The main part of the building features unpainted roughcast walls with ashlar and stucco dressings, topped by a shallow-pitched hipped Welsh slate roof that has overhanging eaves and tall, narrow rendered stacks. The main two-storey rectangular unit has been extended on all sides: there are single-storey glazed conservatories added to the front and left side, a lower two-storey tile-hung wing at the rear, and a further conservatory along with a two-storey rendered wing on the side opposite the church. The windows in the main range are 12-pane sashes with stone sills set in reveals. The main entrance is located on the side; the first floor features a three-window range on the left and is windowless on the right, with a stone platband below. The ground floor has similar windows, and the doorway, which has a fanlight with radial glazing and a six-panelled door, is now accessed through the conservatory. The main facade facing the road has a five-window range, while the extension on the church side includes a curved bay with a relocated long small-pane round-headed sash window.
Inside, there is a long hall that runs parallel to the street frontage, with the main reception rooms located at the front. Many original furnishings have been retained, including panelled reveals and shutters, six-panelled doors, and fireplaces. The staircase features a wreathed handrail, enriched treads, and slender turned balusters, along with an original staircase window arch that has a fluted surround and panelled reveals.
