Description

This listing describes a group of four tombs designed by Hopkin and Jenkins, enclosed by late 18th to early 19th century cast iron railings on the west side of the path leading to the south porch. The railings feature fleur terminals, with ten balusters positioned between each round and collared stanchion, all topped with sharply pointed terminals.

Inside the enclosure, in the northeast corner, there is a narrow chest tomb made of ashlar, featuring an undercut chamfered ledger slab. This tomb is inscribed to David Hopkin, who died in 1762, his son David, who died in 1799, and John David, who was added in 1805.

In the southwest corner, there is a chest tomb with wide fluted corner pilasters and a moulded base, topped with a hipped capstone. The north side of this tomb is inscribed to Gwenllian Jenkins, who died in 1880, with additional inscriptions on top for her ancestors, including Jane Jenkins of Gelli, who died in 1785, William Treharne of Gelly, who died in 1839, and Elizabeth, daughter of Gwenllian, who died in 1872.

In the northwest corner, there is a shaped headstone for William Lewis of Gelly Mill, who died in 1847, and his wife. Finally, in the southeast corner, there is a red granite keeled hogback tomb for William Treharne Jenkins of Gelli, who died in 1909.
