Description

Pentre Farmhouse, with its attached farm range, dates from the early 19th century and is built of sandstone rubble, with the farm range retaining its stone construction and rendered in pebbledash. The roofs are slate-covered. The house itself is a one-and-a-half-story, two-bay structure with an integrated stable and cowhouse. The south-facing elevation of the house is symmetrical, featuring a central boarded door sheltered by a pent roof. Each side of the door is a 12-pane sash window with cambered heads and stone sills. Two raised, gabled dormers illuminate the upper floor. A rendered gable displays an external stack at the lower end. Attached to the house is a stable with a wide door and window, above which is a hayloft. The cowhouse, which has boulder foundations at its upper end, incorporates a central feeding walk and stable doors at each end. A paned window is located above the cowhouse. The walls of the farm range were raised, likely in the early 19th century.

The house's main stack is situated at the upper end and is set against the stable wall, featuring a chamfered fire lintel. An additional stack is present in the lower parlour, which is separated by a split oak lath partition. The interior displays ‘A’ frame trusses with chamfered lower edges and trenched purlins, along with chamfered tie beams and reed-moulded joists. A stone stair was originally located behind the stack, but has since been moved to the rear wall. A large chimney opening features a stop-chamfered fire lintel and a cast iron range. A rear lean-to dairy contains a stone floor and shelving. The farm range incorporates cross beams supporting the upper floor.
