Description

The Nicholl family tomb is a stone table tomb located in the churchyard of St Teilo in Merthyr Mawr. It features a flat capstone, and the angles are adorned with pilasters that have husks below four-leaf flowers. On the short sides, there are oval tablets displaying the Nicholl family crest, which consists of a castle topped by a Cornish chough, along with heraldic pheons on the upper right and left. The eastern side of the tomb has raised lettering that commemorates the family of the Right Honorable Sir John Nicholl. The long sides of the tomb have wide oval tablets that are currently left blank, intended for future commemorative inscriptions, and are decorated with foliage on the upper right and left.
