Description
Scott's Pit Engine House is a Cornish engine house constructed from rubble stone, topped with a 20th-century metal sheet roof. It features a large external chimney breast on the rear wall, which is stepped in four stages; the first two stages are large, while the upper two are smaller, culminating in a tapering brick stack.
The front wall has a prominent segmental arched gable opening, supported by stone voussoirs for the beam, along with a narrower segmental arch opening at ground level. The south side is elevated due to the sloping ground and includes a large ground floor opening with a segmental arch made of red brick. To the right and above this opening is a cambered-headed door with an orange brick head. Above that, there is a blocked small arched opening also with an orange brick head, and further up, another cambered-arched door with an orange brick head. The orange brick heads are of a later date than the red brick.
On the north side, there is a first-floor camber-headed door with an orange brick head, above which is a small arched opening with an orange brick head, and to the right of this is another cambered-headed door.
All the internal floors have been removed, but the building retains a large platform for the cylinder.
