Description

The Iron Footbridge over the Swansea Canal is a footbridge constructed with two large I-beams made of riveted plates, connected by T-section pieces. It features a flat bottom piece and a top handrail composed of two hollow rails bolted back-to-back. The decking and linking struts beneath the bridge were replaced in the late 20th century. The bridge is supported on rubble stone piers, with rubble stone ramps on each side leading up from the towpaths. These ramps are made of coursed rock-faced squared rubble stone and have sloping parapets.
