Description

Prince's Fountain is a tall monumental fountain built from coursed dressed stone at the front, with coursed rock-faced stone on the sides and random rubble at the rear. The front features a recess with a round-headed rusticated arch that has a stressed keystone. Inside the arch is a cast iron bowl shaped like a shell, along with a lion's head tap. Behind the lion's head is a tablet with engraved letters that records the gift of the land by the Duke of Beaufort. Above the arch is another tablet that notes the fountain's restoration in 1977.

Above a moulded cornice, there is a larger inset tablet with engraved letters that states: 'Erected by Voluntary Contributions to commemorate the marriage of His Royal Highness Albert Edward Prince of Wales with the Princess Alexandra on the 10th of March AD 1863'. Above another moulded cornice is a low gabled parapet that is engraved with the words 'Prince's Fountain'. The cornices and parapet extend around the side walls as well.
