Description
Henbury Cottage is a double-fronted, two-storey village house built around 1760. It features rubble stone walls that are rendered and painted white, topped with a corrugated metal roof that has replaced the original thatch. On the right side, there is an original square stone chimney stack that has been partly cut down, while a 19th-century brick stack is located on the left. The front openings are offset to the left and are currently boarded up. The doorway is situated within a gabled porch. The right angle of the building is rounded, and there is a small stair light in the right gable end. An extension of the Southgate Country Club is set back against the right gable end. At the rear, there is a blocked doorway and an upper-storey window, along with the shadow of a former lean-to.
Although inaccessible during the inspection in September 1999, it has been reported by the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales that the cottage retains a fireplace with a wooden lintel, flanked by a bread oven and a winding stone stairway that is open to the roof.
