Description
The Clifton memorial and railings, located in the churchyard, is a Gothic-style monument made of Bath stone. It features a large square plan with four gabled sides, each topped with finials, and a four-sided ashlar spire also adorned with finials. Each side of the monument has a long pointed recessed plaque with eroding lettering, supported by a moulding beneath, and sits over a pedestal with rectangular panels on each side and a moulded plinth. The structure includes thin stepped diagonal angle buttresses. The gable copings originally had carved stops at the corners, which are now lost. The main inscription is dedicated to W to C.C. Clifton, while the south side bears an inscription to the Rev C.C. Clifton, who died in 1847.
Surrounding the memorial is an oval enclosure made of Gothic iron railings set on a low stone plinth. The railings feature fleur-de-lys finials, and between each pair of rails, there are small pointed inserts just below the top rail and two iron quatrefoils. A matching gate opening is located below the top rail on the east side.
